Getting to Know You

Posted on Fri Oct 16th, 2020 @ 10:26am by Commander Charles Gillespie VII

Chuck entered his quarters with a weary look on his face. The mission was going well and the bluntness of the O-D-K, while confusing at times, was refreshing. But, he felt he wasn't connecting with his fellow officers the way he needed to. He had only met Mr. O'Connell in any meaningful way. And, he felt he was at odds with the Captain, albeit inadvertently. Time to make a change.

He sat down at his desk and activated his comm panel. "Computer, begin recording message for the senior staff."

"Ready."

"Good evening, shipmates. I'd like to invite you to my quarters for a poker game tomorrow evening, mission permitting. We've been in such a rush since I've come aboard with the diplomatic mission, that I haven't had a chance to really get to know you. Knowledge is the foundation of trust." Artemis chose that moment to jump on Chuck's desk. "Yes, little girl, we're having company." He returned to his message. "I hope you all can join me for some socializing. Gillespie out."

Satisfied, Chuck began a new message. "Computer, this is for the Strategic Operations Staff."

"Ready."

"Good Evening. We will be having a staff lunch weekly in the wardroom. This is to supplement all briefings during the week as well as creating a better team environment. I will do my best to make this a pleasant experience and not mandatory fun. Every Monday at 1200 hours. Gillespie out."

Feeling better about the situation, he scratched his cat's head and opened his book.
