Mission: Distress Call
Location: Bridge
Timeline: Current

“Helm take us out of orbit and once clear of space traffic proceed to the Olympia maximum warp. Keep an eye on sensors we don’t know what caused that freighter to loose power save for life support,” Mystery said. “Intelligence see if you can find out what that freighter was carrying.”

"Aye Captain," Lucas responded.

The order coming down from the Captain was electric for Lucas. The excitement in his body was barely contained behind his stoic demeanor. He was about to fly the ship...actually, he was about to fly his first Achilles class starship.

It was a momentous occasion, although he was fully aware that it came under less than ideal circumstances given that the lives of the crew of the freighter Olympia was at risk.

Lucas thought it was all the more reason he had to make sure that he performed at his absolute best.

His hands flew across the helm control panel with collective ease and determination as he fired the ship's thrusters, breaking orbit from the planet.

Once the ship was headed away from the planet, he took the ship to a quarter impulse as she cleared the bulk of the traffic and reached the navigational buoy that ended the warp-free zone.

"Clearing warp-free zone now," he stated. "Setting heading 030 mark 012, setting speed to maximum warp."

"Engage," came the order from the Captain.

With that, Lucas punched in the course and speed and instantly the stationary stars on the giant viewscreen became streaky lines as the Independence entered into warp on its way to help the freighter in distress.

Hopefully, we are not too late, Lucas mused as he checked their ETA.
