Kevin looked over to the Commander, observing intelligent green eyes in an attractive face framed by blazing red hair hair pulled back in a long pony tail that fell almost to her waist. The primal part of his brain acknowledged how beautiful she was before duty quashed all emotion. "Lieutenant Lance," he reported, "your new Chief Tactical Officer."

"A group of Ferengi are hold up in the Diplomat's Quarters. A Gunny from the Starbase has taken a couple of Marines to circle around to flank their position. I was about to open negotiations to give them time to get into position."

Commander Ellis took a moment to process the information then she nodded.

"Hey, Ferengi!" Kevin shouted, "Where’s the profit in attacking a Federation starbase?"

"Go away. This is no affair of yours," was the reply.

"Maybe not," Kevin conceded, "but isn’t the 33rd rule of acquisition 'No profit is worth your own death'?"

There was a pause, then, "Stupid Uman. The 33rd rule is “It never hurts to suck up to the boss”!"

"So is that what’s going on. A lot of sucking?" Kevin heard a snort of amusement from Commander Ellis.

"Our factor doesn’t want the Elobe Consortium to make a deal with the..." There was a loud thump of something hard connecting with something wet followed by a softer thump. The next voice that spoke was slightly higher pitched than the first.
