Thomas was highly annoyed, it had taken him months to find a Ferengi contact who could supply him with the Drexel Pods, since they had to be harvested from the swamps of Choban 5, a planet deep in Ferengi controlled space, during a specific time of the year.

According to the Ferengi cookbook that he had acquired, the Drexel Pods had to be processed as they were just about to molt into their third stage of development. And like the puffer fish from the oceans of earth, it requires a steady hand to filet them so that you do not rupture the toxin sacs and make the meat inedible. Since 90% of his shipment was ruined what was meant to be a main course has become an appetizer.

With and impressive economy of movement, Thomas began snatching the Pods one at a time out of the container, cracking the snail like shell with the bolster on the end of his filet knife and extracting the small sluglike creature with his fingers and then fillets them with the exceptionally sharp carbon steel blade.

He was about 2/3's of the way through the container of Pods when Lt Commander Ellis stormed in to demand answers and determine the level of risk the Drexel Pods presented to Her ship. Before she could get a word out Thomas paused his pattern turning to Ellis and holding up a finger in one of the most commanding motions she had ever seen, he shushes her with a finger and turns back to his cutting board.
