Mission: Settlers
Location: planet
Timeline: current

ON:

Evening had come upon the colony. After a long day's work Kudo had stepped off with some folks to tour the town, leaving Billi and Kehlani to themselves. Two large bonfires had been lit, the wood catching more and more as the flames became a proper conflagration. There had to be fifty colonists around the two fires, communing, laughing and socializing with the two women they had come to respect. Females who had no qualms about hard work and dedication. Both of these females had treated the colonists with respect, always asking permission before just rolling forward with ideas for structures and construction.

Two portable power generators provided power for lights and the audio amplifiers, and instruments had been created with the replicators down here on Astra; after a bit of programming voodoo from Billi herself. Both Kehlani and Billi had been entertaining the children through various means. Magic tricks and sleight-of-hand made the children giggle and laugh, but what amazed Kehlani the most was how quickly these younglings caught on to each trick. She began to scrutinize them more closely while acting as normal as ever. But, as the night sky became lit with stars the elders and parents got everyone gathered around since Billi and kay had promised to entertain them with music.

A makeshift stage of slatboards and siding had been laid out, with two mic stands with wireless mics. The ladies had cleaned up using the sonic showers in the warehouse, and were now ready to bring their all. Kehlani's hair was done up in her multiple braids while Billi wore hers in a braided ponytail. Everything was in place, all the sound equipment provided by the two lieutenants.

"Hey, folks," said Billi, stepping to the mic on her left, Kay to her right at the other. "After a hard day's work it's always good to relax. So, let us entertain you. This is for the kids," she said with a big smile, cheers coming up from the young ones as she gave them a wave and blew them a kiss. Kehlani was ready to move around, dance and sing while plying to the crowd, especially the younglings. Billi would provide backup vocals on the first one, with Billi also dropping an octave to sing for Ras Fraser Jr. With Kehlani having grown up on Jamaica, her father's home being there on Earth as he served at the embassy, Kehlani was perfect for singing this song.

"Music Is Life"
(feat. Ras Fraser Jr.)

[Ras Fraser Jr.:]
Music is life, life, life, life
Come again

E-e-elliphant
Holla at me hater Imma holla back
See me cut a dread in a disco track
Beer's on ice, soon as I'm home
Roll up a shrink now my beer is cold
I put my headphone on
Man gon' plug in and soon Imma zone
Imma groovin
Gotta keep grooving gotta groove for life
Rhythm is me window it's me hope it's me life
I gotta stay true yo, visitors free
I better hold on now, this time is me
And my man Ras G
If he cook a rock serve a melody

[Hook - Elliphant & Ras Fraser Jr.:]
Hey yo yo, gotta keep movin' and groovin'
For life, for life
Hey yo yo, this type of music keep me groovin'
For life, for life
Music is life

[Elliphant & Ras Fraser Jr.:]
Another day another dollar said
Waking up waking out wanna fly away
Who are you baby I never saw you bro
You're like a brush in my eyes
N-n-now Ras
Good vibes the people them want
Play the music ah tell me of Jah
From Jamaica to Sweden to France
People all jump and prance
It's source of life
Take heed from the word of the wise
When I'm down and out and I need some strength
Music can keep me alive

[Hook]

[Ras Fraser Jr. & Elliphant:]
Feel no pain
Blood run through my veins
Feel so good in my neighborhood
Breathe in breathe out and feel the love G
You may be poor but music is free
A shitty day but then you press play
Music will take you away

[Hook x2]

You gotta keep moving boy
You gotta keep moving girl
You gotta keep moving on
You gotta keep moving on
You gotta keep moving boy
You gotta keep moving girl
You gotta keep moving on
You gotta keep moving on, moving on, move

The cheers and applause were decent, warming as they went. So far, these two Federation citizens had proven to be accepting and believed in privacy, not wandering around spying on all the colony was doing. The children loved these two, though, and that meant a lot to the parents and other adults. If there was duplicity with these two women they were damn good at hiding it.

Kehlani clapped on her wrist while holding her mic up in the air, thanking the crowd. "We appreciate it, folks. Glad we could bring a pleasant end to a long day. Anyway, Billi has a song on mind so, here we go." Kehlani would no provide backup vocals and entertain by dancing and playing to the crowd. Both females knew how to move in all the right ways, for various reasons and meanings. So far, they had kept it clean...ish.

"Get It Right"
(feat. MØ)

I am walking down that road
Where did all the flowers go?
They say we're supposed to grow
Learning from the highs and low

All eyes lying on me, oh
Begging me to play the role
'Cause I'm gonna get it right
I'm gonna get it right

They can try to hold me down, but I am
I'm gonna get it right
When the sky is filled with smoke and fire
I'm gonna get it right
All I want is something better in the purple light
They can try to hold me down, but I am
I'm gonna get it right

(dual dance routine, Charleston style)

All my dreams are running wild
I'm gonna chase them down
They said you gonna lose your mind
hurry up, you're out of time

I say I will rise and shine
Even in the coldest night
'Cause I'm gonna get it right
I'm gonna get it right

They can try to hold me down, but I am
I'm gonna get it right
When the sky is filled with smoke and fire
I'm gonna get it right
All I want is something better in the purple light
They can try to hold me down, but I am
I'm gonna get it right

I'm gonna get it right
I'm gonna get it right

(dual dance routine, charleston style) until music ends.

The crowd really cheered and applauded, several people standing to clap as the booze began to get passed around. Kehlani and Billi each got a stein of the local brew. Kudo had come around, hearing the music and crowd across town. Going to the warehouse he cleaned up and hurried over to the makeshift dance arena and stage. Still wearing his sleeveless shirt with no engineers vest, Ken stepped up on stage when the ladies waved him to ascend. Another mic was found and handed to him. After a huddle among the three, mics held away and down, they settled on a song. It had a serious bass beat, and both ladies could sing a portion each to him, while he sang back to them, with all three playing to the crowd as well.

"You're in for a treat folks, these ladies will have your asses moving in no time." Kudo got that out just before the music began and Kehlani gave the first vocal, and all he had to say went into the mic.

"Mind"
(feat. Kai)

You love how you push me to the point of crazy
And I love when you're on your knees and begging for me
You got me good with all these mind games
There you go, you got my heart again

Say my name, I wanna hear you call
Hold me close, I wanna feel your heart
I'm in a cold sweat and I want you bad
Now you got me all in my head, like damn

I'mma show you how, show you how, show you how to love again
I'mma show you how, show you how, show you how to love again
I'mma show you how, show you how, show you how to love again
I'mma show you how, show you how, show you how to love again

(The dance routine with the three of them was spot on)

Say my name, I wanna hear you call
Hold me close, I wanna feel your heart
I'm in a cold sweat and I want you bad
Now you got me all in my head, like damn

I'mma show you how, show you how, show you how to love again
I'mma show you how, show you how, show you how to love again
I'mma show you how, show you how, show you how to love again
I'mma show you how, show you how, show you how to love again

I'mma show you how, show you how, show you how to love again
I'mma show you how, show you how, show you how to love again
I'mma show you how, show you how, show you how to love again
I'mma show you how, show you how, show you how to love again

The crowd was now awake and ready for more, and a stein of brew was handed to Kudo. After a few swigs he set it aside while Billi set up the holographic emitters for the instruments. Kehlani went and sat behind the full drum set, one she had programmed after Tommy Lee's set-up. Billi was on lead guitar, while other positions were filled by holographic band members. Vocals were on Kudo right now, and this was one the trio had practiced in their down time. All three loved music, of all kinds. "Okay," said Kudo into the mic. "We had that, now we'll have some rock. Hope you enjoy." The trio took up their steins and clacked them together, took a long pull, then set them aside and got set for a bit of rock n roll.

"Burn"

{OA: The Cure/Crow soundtrack}

"Don't look don't look" the shadows breathe
Whispering me away from you
"Don't wake at night to watch her sleep
You know that you will always lose
This trembling
Adored
Tousled bird mad girl..."
But every night I burn
But every night I call your name
Every night I burn
Every night I fall again

"Oh don't talk of love" the shadows purr
Murmuring me away from you
"Don't talk of worlds that never were
The end is all that's ever true
There's nothing you can ever say
Nothing you can ever do..."
Still every night I burn
Every night I scream your name
Every night I burn
Every night the dream's the same
Every night I burn
Waiting for my only friend
Every night I burn
Waiting for the world to end

"Just paint your face" the shadows smile
Slipping me away from you
"Oh it doesn't matter how you hide
Find you if we're wanting to
So slide back down and close your eyes
Sleep a while
You must be tired..."
But every night I burn
Every night I call your name
Every night I burn
Every night I fall again
Every night I burn
Scream the animal scream
Every night I burn
Dream the crow black dream

Dream the crow black dream...

Once finished the crowd gave them a standing ovation. Live entertainment, especially that which was better than most, was always welcome. And, these folks were doing it simply because they wanted to, to give something unique to their hosts. Everyone in the crowd felt that they could appreciate that. You had to give respect to get respect. Plus, the drummer, the blonde woman, had them curious. She seemed more like themselves, tougher in ways that showed in the way she carried herself; her swagger and posture most times. She was barely sweating when they stopped playing and stepped down to join in the festivities. A circular area had been set up using kiosk tables from the market, with torches lit and placed strategically, and the tables filled with food and drink.

After a few sips from each of their drinks the three stood close to each other, talking low but not secretive. "Seems we did a good thing here." Said Billi.

"Qapla'," said Kehlani. Her voice had been casual but her eyes were watching even when they looked to be wandering around lazily. Several people in their general vicinity did, ever-so-slightly, incline their heads her way, as if listening. That one Klingon word had obviously surprised them. But, did they even know what they had heard? Perhaps they didn't know what Klingon sounded like and were merely curious over the foreign word. Either way, she was fine with it.

Billi grinned, hooking her left arm through Kudo's right as she leaned into him like a girlfriend. "This is pleasant. Been a while since I've been to a party on the farm."

Ken looked over at Billi, then down at the embrace and show of pseudo-affection, then back up to her eyes. "Reminds me of beach gatherings on the islands. People gathering to celebrate life and togetherness, enjoying all that has been given to us. The sea, the land, the sky. No one can know that, truly, unless they have tilled the land at some point in their lives."

Kehlani saw Billi and what she was doing. That was why she loved Billi. To an Orion, intimacy was love, even if love itself was not the goal. It was sharing, giving pleasure for the sake of pleasure. However, with Orion females it was also a means to wealth and power if the sexuality was used right. And, she had met Billi many years ago while still a young adult, when Billi had already risen to the rank of Capo in the Orion Syndicate. The woman had done the Orion slave girl bit for a few years and had gained substantial wealth and holdings because of it. Kehlani had her own family and House Grilka for all her needs. "Hey, you two, let's go join the townsfolk. I see a barrel over there and I am dying to see what is inside of it!" Kay began to move forward.

Billi and Kudo chuckled and disentangled, one following his friend, the other following her Klingon lover.
