Starbase 945

Personal Log:

Lieutenant Commander Ellis assigned me to lead the away team to investigate the disappearance of every sentient (and non-sentient) aboard Starbase 945 and the two starships, USS West Wind and USS Mitzi. Why she would send me away from my post during such uncertainty is worrying. As Chief Tactical Officer, I am responsible for the safety of the ship from external threats. Anything that happens to USS Independence is my fault, more so than anyone but the Captain himself.

Given the lack of information available on the situation, I find it hardly surprising that the Captain and Exec are distancing themselves. It makes strategic sense to engage with the smallest force necessary but I can’t shake the nagging feeling that it is borne of a sense of self-preservation.

Am I being set up to fail? Removing me from my post and sending me, a department head, into a gulf of uncertainty gives the command group the perfect alibi should I fail on the station or the ship becomes compromised in my absence. I can’t trust them. And after being the Captain’s hatchman, I doubt that I can trust Lieutenant Commander Relor either. The only one I can trust is myself.
