Petty Officer 2nd Class Cory Jaenke keyed the communicator on his panel. "Commander Ellis," he spoke, "I have an incoming communication from Lieutenant Lance that has been relayed through the shuttle, Krakatoa."
"On screen," Mystery ordered.
The image of Lieutenant Lance still wearing his environment suit appeared on the screen. "Commander Ellis," Kevin began, "we have accessed the base and secured the command hub, engineering, and the science lab. Numerous systems have been manually rendered inoperative including the base's transmission array and internal sensors. Lieutenant Kovitchka is running diagnostics to determine what has been shut down and will begin repairs. There are signs of fighting on the base. We have encountered only four of the base's personnel. One was already dead but the other three appear to be infected will some sort of disease."
"Any idea where the rest of the base personal are?" Mystery asked "Can you tell who they were fighting with, have Doctor Feyd check out any notes, logs or anything that can help from both the science lab and sick bay."
"Internal sensors are off-line, so we have no way to identify where the base personnel are," Kevin responded, "Doctor Relor's team was forced out of the Med Bay before he had a chance to access the medical computers. Ensign Takach is reviewing the computer records in the Science Lab. We are manually cycling the airlock to the Command Hub. We expect to be able to access the command groups logs and the medical records from the Command Hub's terminals."
"I have a background in operations, do you need me to beam over and see if I can get the sensors online?" Mystery asked "Use the shuttles sensors to see if you can pick up anything. Do you suspect any other ships besides the two docked there?"
"We will know more once we are able to access the Command Hub's computers," Kevin replied, "I would advise against bring the Independence into transporter range until we know more. Lieutenant Kovitchka is reporting that the computer is accepting and relaying commands to the subsystems but the systems are not responding. She suspects physical sabotage of the subsystems. I will task the shuttle with scanning the base but it will take some time."
"Keep me posted," Mystery said "I'll hold the ship here, also see if there is any reference in the logs of that solar system too."
"Aye, aye. Lance, out," Kevin responded before his image disappeared from the screen.
